Magnum XL-200 opens
Arrow Dynamics hyper coaster opens along the beach — among the first rides over 200 feet tall.
Background
Magnum XL-200 is often credited with popularizing the "hyper coaster" class — full-circuit steel rides focused on speed and airtime rather than inversions. Its 1989 debut along Cedar Point's beach gave the public a new template for what a tall coaster could feel like.
